Havana Outdoor Contemporary Light Fixtures

Today I was in the mood for checking out outdoor contemporary light fixtures and involuntarily one of my eyebrows raised in awe when I ran across the Havana Outdoor Terra lamps.

These elegant contemporary light fixtures were designed by Jozeph Forakis for Foscarini in 2005. Though these light fixtures can be used for either indoor or outdoor, I believe the artistic design is portrayed much better when they stand out under the open sky. These inverse pear shaped lamps are made of Polyethylene and lacquered metal in a single rotational molded piece. The Havana Outdoor Terra lamps are available in either white or colored polyethylene. These light fixtures are available with either a re-positionable base or with a stake in an underground box.

These Havana Outdoor Terra contemporary light fixtures weigh under 15 lbs in spite of them being about 5'7" in height from the tip to the base. One can use either a fluorescent 20W E27 bulb, or a 42W E27 halogen lamp, or even an incandescent 60W E27 light bulb for this diffuser.

Manhattan TR Contemporary Light Fixtures

Wish you could bring Manhattan into your living room, it probably would be a little difficult, though you sure can bring in Manhattan TR in the form of contemporary light fixtures.

The Manhattan TR is an architectural floor that resembles a skyscraper. These contemporary light fixtures are easy on the eye and the two tone metal finish creates an interesting background for the tall diffuser. The general illumination is provided by either the incandescent or the fluorescent light sources. The Manhattan TR was designed by Danilo De Rossi for Leucos.

The metal base and the supporter for the diffuser is finished in either polished chrome or painted titanium. An ON/OFF switch is provided on a black cord that exits the base and an optional in-line dimmer is provided for the incandescent version. These Contemporary Light Fixtures come in two sizes. The MANHATTAN TR1 is almost identical to the Manhattan TR except that it is almost a foot taller than the it. Both of them are 10.25" in length and 9.875" in width. The Manhattan TR comes in either of Satin White Glass or Ribbed Pale Green Glass while the MANHATTAN TR1 comes in White Polycarbonate. If you wish to have matching items for these lamps, Companion table and Leucos Manhattan P24 wall sconces are available.

Note that if you are planning on installing these contemporary light fixtures by yourself, it is recommended to read the installation manual as one can scratch the glass easily due to the weight of the diffuser while assembling the parts together. The Manhattan TR Incandescent lamp takes 4x100W Type A-19 white, while the MANHATTAN TR1 takes 5x100W Type A-19 white. These lamps are provided by the manufacturer. However, the lamps for the fluorescent version are not provided. The former one requires 2x55W 120V or 277V 2G11 lamps while the latter requires 3x36W 120V or 277V 2G11 lamps.

Leaf Personal Contemporary Light Fixtures

TIME Magazine picked Leaf Personal LED Light as one of the best inventions of 2007 on the basis of energy efficiency and sleek design in the Contemporary Light Fixtures. I would totally agree to their choice and also add the element of ECO friendliness to their statement.

Leaf Personal looks exactly like it's name sates, a large leaf that can be folded. This piece was designed by Yves Béhar for Herman Miller. Its thin aluminum blades produce an elegant profile, which give these contemporary light fixtures a sculptural, and organic form. The Leaf accommodates a wide range of operation. The lower blade rotates 180 degrees and can pivot 27.5 degrees forward and 23 degrees backward. The upper blade pivots 210 degrees to give you the option of extending it for direct lighting or folding it for subtle, ambient illumination.

For all the Environment friendly folks, you will be happy to learn that theLeaf Personal uses less of the world's resources to give better light. Leaf has 20 LEDs (light-emitting diodes) which consume about 8 to 9 watts of power, and sheds full light for a minimum of 60,000 hours, which is about eight times longer than conventional light sources. To top it off Leaf is one of the the Contemporary Light Fixtures that is made of 37% recycled materials and is up to 95% recyclable at the end of its useful life.

Leaf Personal is one of the contemporary light fixtures that allows you to pick the level of illumination you desire ranging from warm mood light to cool night light and anywhere in between with the help of intuitive touch sensitive controls. You can change the intensity by simply sliding your finger on the control. The built in micro processor is smart enough to remember the intensity and color variation setting that you last selected and produces that same light when you turn it back on again.

These Contemporary Light Fixtures come in Red, Black, Nickel, and Chrome/Polished Aluminum color finishes.

Shiraz Ceiling Contemporary Light Fixtures

Today I was looking for Contemporary Light Fixtures that could be used either for the Ceiling of for the Walls and my eyes light up when I saw the Shiraz Wall Lamp.

The Shiraz ceiling/wall lamp comes from Axo lighting and is designed by Manuel Vivian. This lamp is available in two different colors, one in crystal and the other in red. I prefer the crystal over the red, though depending on the color or the ambiance of your room one might pick the red. These contemporary light fixtures come in a chrome metal finish canopy and consist of either clear or red Bohemian crystal roses that are attached to a body of tempered and white printed glass. A pinch of red in the dining room always adds romance.

The Shiraz Ceiling or Wall Contemporary Light Fixtures comes in three different sizes. The Shiraz Small Wall Lamp measures about 11.8" in width, 11.8" in height, and extends about 5.1" from the wall. The Shiraz Medium Wall Lamp measures about 15.7" in width, 15.7" in height, and extends about 5.9" from the wall. The Shiraz Big Wall Lamp measures about 23.6" in width, 23.6" in height, and extends about 5.9" from the wall. The small Shiraz takes one 60W R7 bulb, while the medium and the big wall lamps take 150W, and 200W R7 bulbs respectively.

The available three different sizes of Shiraz Contemporary Light Fixtures allows one to mix and match art in your home.

Cabildo Wall Mount Contemporary Light Fixtures

Sometimes one wonders if an artist has created one of the Contemporary Light Fixtures that can be used in multiple ways or can match other fixtures of similar design next to it. One that strikes to my mind is the Cabildo Wall Mount from Artemide.

The Cabildo Wall Mount was designed by Eric Sole. This modern fixture strikes quite a distinction from other wall sconces Contemporary Light Fixtures with a spectacular aluminum reflector and a lamp concealed in it's base and shielded by frosted glass guard.

The other variation of the Cabildo Wall Mount is the Cabildo Suspension which is very much similar to it except from the fact that it is mounted to the ceiling, and the canopy is made of white molded thermoplastic with clear electrical cords and stainless steel cable.

One can make a complete collection of this Contemporary Light Fixtures by adding the Cabildo Suspension and the Cabildo Floor Lamp to your living room area for an aesthetic presence.

The Cabildo Wall Mount is one of the Contemporary Light Fixtures that easily mounts to standard electrical junction boxes. This fixture along with the other counterparts take one 300W (R7S/T3) Halogen lamp.

The design of this Contemporary Light Fixtures features two layers of frosted water glass that casts a cool and alluring light. The glass is offset by the Polished nickel finish accents. This marvelous piece comes from the Possini Euro Design Lighting Collection.

Ceiling Snowball Contemporary Light Fixtures

This past winter we had a record snowfall accumulation in our area. I was checking for something to keep that in memory in the Contemporary Light Fixtures, when I came across Louis Poulsen PH Snowbal.

The Louis Poulsen PH Snowball is considered a smaller version of the PH Louvre made for the Adventist Church in Skodsborg, Denmark. But unlike the PH Louvre, the number of shades is reduced to just eight and mounted on three legs. The diameter of the fixture is also reduced due to the fact that it was intended for lower ceiling spaces. This is one of the Contemporary Light Fixtures that was first launched together with the PH 5 and the PH Artichoke. The PH Snowball unfortunately did not get the same attention as the other two pendants. However, as a result of the PH Snowball being re-drawn and re-introduced in 1983 this fixture has come alive again. Today it is made with white shades glossed on the top and matted on the underside. The top of the shades are glossy in order to create sparkling light. The undersides of the shades are matte to avoid reflections of the light source.

The Louis Poulsen PH Snowball lamp is considered to be a masterpiece in the Contemporary Light Fixtures of mid century modern Scandinavian design. This modernist pendant lamp displays the exemplary design talent of Danish designer Poul Henningsen. Poul Henningsen designed the Louis Poulsen PH Snowball lamp in 1924. This modern pendant light is the ultimate modern icon. Always stylish, effortlessly elegant and uniquely beautiful, this lamp is a modernist light vessel to be treasured forever. It is considered by many to be an artwork suspended in space. The gracious shape of the Louis Poulsen PH Snowball makes it an easy choice for any refined interior.

Louis Poulsen PH Snowball (1924) is one of the few Contemporary Light Fixtures that is a 360-degree glare free luminaire. The geometry of the PH Snowball is designed to ensure all the illuminated surfaces of the shades are struck by the rays of light in the same angle, creating an even illumination. This snowball measures 15.4" in height, 15.7" in diameter, and hangs from a cable length of a maximum of 12 feet. This luminaire takes one 200W max A23 incandescent bulb.
